Independent
Day School has gained recognition as a
model school that features the best practices in education.
Best practices are innovative, tried and tested practices that
have gained credibility in the field of education.
Researched
based education
Research has revealed, and is constantly revealing more, about how
we learn. IDS is committed to giving children the most effective
teaching methods that education has to offer. We embrace innovative,
proven techniques for evoking peak performance from ourselves as
well as our students. We use team teaching, for example, an integrated
curriculum.
Opportunities
to participate
At IDS, we encourage students to take in active role in their education
and invite them to participate in making decisions that affect their
community. We use proven interactive teaching techniques such as
cooperative learning, and promote involvement in all aspects of
student life, including sports, student government and visual and
performing arts.
A
life long love of learning
We help young people develop the skills, knowledge and positive
outlooks they need to prosper in higher education and in life. By
nurturing self-esteem and giving students and teachers opportunities
to develop cooperative skills, we help them learn to find joy in
hard work, and to work hard in a spirit of play.
Hands-on, student centered learning
Students' curiosity helps to shape the curriculum, with teachers
serving as mentors. We teach students how to use data to formulate
concepts. We help students to become well-rounded human beings who
develop intellectual, creative and physical abilities along with
strength of character and sound values. We help them to explore
the interconnectedness of learning and to see their lives as an
integrated whole.
"Independent Day School: A Community of
Learners. Champion teachers from IDS have been in staff development
workshops as eager learners. They create the abilities and the environments
for champion teaching and quality learning for their students."
