Overview

IDS-CC provides a dynamic educational environment that uses innovative, proven strategies to incorporate joy and challenge in learning.

Independent Day School-Corbett Campus was founded as an independent, nonsectarian school located on Orange Grove Drive in northwest Hillsborough County, and now serves over 500 college-bound students in Pre-K3 through 8th grade. The school was founded in 1968 by parents seeking an educational program that combined excellence in academics, innovative learning techniques, and the nurturing of a positive self-concept. While the school as evolved through the years, it's dedication to a hands-on, child-centered philosophy has prevailed and is now based on best practices in education and knowledge gained from leading-edge brain research to accelerate learning.

The beautiful cypress-covered campus rests on the shores of Lake Lipsey. The grounds are full of captivating colors and inspiring views. The award winning architecture creates a sense of belonging, which captures the school's spirit of creativity and community.

Since it's founding, the school has gained national and international recognition as a model of best practices in education. The strong academic record earned designation as a Blue Ribbon School, as an International Baccalaureate school (PreK-3 – 8th grade) and a school for gifted education for all learners due to a grant from the University of South Florida, Gifted Education Program, College of Education.

The School is known also for an impressive fine arts program, successful team sports, cutting-edge technology throughout the school, and a separate middle school facility.

All students have access to:

  • two gymnasiums, computer labs, a library, black box theater and teacher training center.
  • the Community School of the Arts which offers additional training in music, dance, drama and musical theater.
  • the Community Sports Program which offers additional coaching and skill building above and beyond the school's active athletic program.
  • Camp IDS which offers academic camps, sports camps, recreational programs, and more (see Marvin Harvey Basketball School of Excellence).
Independent Day School

Chosen for their lifelong learning focus, highly-skilled faculty members use interactive techniques to allow students to take an active role in their education. Every teacher is an energetic, dedicated and caring professional who is responsive to the unique strengths of each student, differences in learning styles, and individual academic needs.

Research continues to reveal more about how students learn. Our teachers study weekly as a total faculty to stay current with the most effective teaching methods to help all students soar.

Teacher implementation of the M.O.R.E. Approach, (Multiple Options for Results in Education), promotes excitement and involvement in all aspects of student life by utilizing strategies such as cooperative learning, high level critical thinking skills, multiple intelligences, integrated curriculum, international perspectives, and an emphasis on character and community service. Over 6,500 educators worldwide have observed and/or trained at IDS-CC allowing the school to be a private school with a public purpose.

Curriculum is keyed to national and state standards. At the same time, students' curiosity helps shape the curriculum with teachers serving as mentors. IDS-CC students consistently score above national averages.

The IDS-CC book, “It’s All about Kids: Every Child Deserves a Teacher of the Year”, and It's Ok to Be Smart, authored by Dr. June White, describes how the school combines the best in academics with social, emotional, and physical well being.

At IDS-CC, young people actually develop the skills and knowledge – as well as the positive outlooks they need – to prosper in higher education and in life.
