IDS-CC Headmaster, Dr. Joyce Burick Swarzman shares the M.O.R.E. Model with teachers in Spain |
M.O.R.E. (Multiple Options for Results in Education)
The 7 components of The M.O.R.E. Model are:
- Child-centered vision: Putting the child in the center of learning and not the teacher in hopes of providing a safe, joyful, and effortless learning community.
- Appreciating the uniqueness of the learner - this involves understanding that all children learn differently. The staff knows and understands the different learning styles and how to accommodate each child so that they are learning the best they can. This involves all aspects of learning; behavioral, social, academic, and emotional.
-
Motivational strategies to increase time on task -the more kids spend on task, the more they learn. This aspect of the M.O.R.E. Approach supplies teachers with an array of strategies to capture student interest and mix fun into learning.
- Creating dignity and respect – this involves the faculty and staff having a positive outlook about everything involved at the school. This involves choosing options and seeking solutions rather than dwelling on obstacles. Those at IDS-CC see the glass half full.
- Teacher presence, making connections – this is the overall tone of the classroom, the culture. This involves all aspects; nonverbal behaviors and mental set. This sends the message to the students about intentions and makes strong connections with the student. The teacher's presence should convey, "I care".
- Learning Community – cooperative learning, team teaching and team communication. This enhances the group dynamics and creates a successful learning environment. This also involves teachers, parents, students, faculty, and staff.
- Curriculum Development – the overall intention of the curriculum is to engage the students and creating a comprehensive framework for application of subjects matter. Each classroom teacher knows what the others are teaching and everyone builds upon student knowledge together.
